By Jim Boyce | If you seek to do some sipping this Saturday, here is a trio of events to check out. The new Mali Wine Cellar celebrates its opening today. It has relocated in the same complex—SOHO New Town—and will carry the same strong portfolio that has made Mali’s one of the best shops in town. As noted here six weeks ago, expect a bigger venue with a private room, a DIY kitchen, and an area for tastings and classes. Today’s opening is from 3 PM to 6 PM at Building 3-501, SOHO New Town Apartments, 88 Jianguo Avenue (北京市æœé˜³åŒºSOHO现代城公寓, 3å·æ¥¼501, 6530-7842).
France’s Le Ponty and Chile’s La Cava are teaming up for a “Wines of Christmas Past” tasting today in Sanlitun. Try multiple vintages of five wines with Helene Ponty and Mariano Larrain at Tao House on the third floor of TopWin Center in the Intercontinental Hotel building. The event is free, goes from 3:30 PM to 6:30 PM, and features Chilean wines Penalolen 2010 and 2014, Calcu Gran Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon 2010 and 2013 and Maquis Cabernet Sauvignon 2010 and 2013, and Bordeaux reds Petit Renouil 2006 and 2011 and Chateau Grand Renouil 2004 and 2007.
And The Wine Republic will hold its annual Christmas tasting today, with more than 50 wines available at the new Hatchery from 2 PM to 5 PM (see map below). For 50 kuai, you can try those wines and enjoy snacks from The Hatchery. Buy two bottles and get the entry fee back. Discounts plus free delivery on orders of six bottles or more. Here’s the map.
