Wines under å…ƒ100 in China: Grace Vineyard Chardonnay 2010

Vineyard Chardonnay 2010 Grace VineyardBy Jim Boyce

While Grace Vineyard Chardonnay 2010 did not make the top four in our recent Grape Wall Challenge, it did get good scores from most of the seven consumers turned judges on the white wine panel.

Six judges either “liked it” (five) or “loved it” (one), with one dissenter submitting a “didn’t like it” vote. One consumer picked it as her favorite out of the challenge’s 20 white wines. She liked the smell and thought this wine would serve as a “perfect summer drink”.

Meanwhile, the journalists who sat in on the tasting also generally liked the Grace Chardonnay, their comments including “refreshing” and “balanced”. One cited tropical smells, while another noted orange rind.

Grace Vineyard Chardonnay 2010 is available for rmb72 from Torres, either online or via its Everwines shops, and Grace has shops of its own in China. I have also seen this wine at Jenny Lou’s in Beijing. And if you want to plunk down rmb120 for a bottle, you can get one delivered along with your Gung Ho pizza — click “drinks” and check the wine picks at the bottom of this page.

This is the tenth vintage from Grace, which hails from Shanxi Province in north-central China, due west of Beijing.
