Uncorked: grapewallofchina.com

Welcome to grapewallofchina.com, the first—as far as I know—English-language blog focused on what’s happening with Chinese wines and China’s wine market. It’s a spin-off of my first China blog—beijingboyce.com—which looks at Beijing’s nightlife. This new blog will have interviews with China wine experts and posts on winery visits, tastings I’ve organized or attended, and links to media reports on the local wine scene.

This week is a busy one, but starting next month, I’ll be posting regularly. I’ll also be upgrading the blog’s look and including some relevant material from my Beijing blog.

Finally, I’ll continue with my mission to find seven decent Chinese wines that anyone can buy for USD 100 for a home tasting. If nothing else, the research can be enjoyable.

Cheers, Boyce

Note: I am not a wine expert, nor gainfully employed in the wine industry in particular, or the food and beverage sector in general. I am simply a consumer interested in wine, especially China’s, and in sharing information about it

Many thanks to Sir Mark Swofford for his technical assistance in starting this blog.

  1. Jim,
Congrats on the new blog – great to see that you are off to a good start. I look forward to watching this one grow.

  2. Thank you for posting, Xavier,

I aim to keep a healthy supply of info pouring into this blog.

And, as you put it, I hope to catch up with you, hopefully over a bottle (or two) of wine.

    Cheers, Boyce

PS I’ll look into the wineries you recommended.

  3. Dear Boyce,

as your blog has just started, i wish you have enough time to write and enough readers to comment available articles.
Sipping wine needs such energy that they sometimes conflict each other.

The interview of Don Jr is a good omen for the blog.

I wish I and Bacchus Wines can help you to further build the wine awareness in this part off the world!

Please do visit our website to know more about us.
    Best,

    Xavier
PS: if we can’t catch up before your visit in Pingyao, pls make sure you visit Huang and Qiao families Gardens!
    As awesome as the vineyards.

  4. Thanks YX,

I’ll soon write up my notes from a recent visit to Chateau Bolongbao organized by the Beijing Wine Club and I’ll also cross-post from my other site a trip to Taillan winery that Frank Siegel organized for a busload of wine lovers. Both wineries are a short drive from Beijing.

I’m hoping to make it to Grace Vineyards, in Shanxi, this summer!

    Cheers, Boyce
